Luke 18:9-14
The Pharisee & the Tax Collector

We will continue our study of Jesus' parables by looking at the Pharisee and the Tax Collector from Luke 18:9-14. Jesus contrasts these two characters in order to challenge the arrogance of the religious leaders (who outwardly adhered to the Law of God) and allow the hated Roman sympathizer to be the model of approaching God. Rather than come before the Lord based on our own performance, we draw near to God is humility and dependence.

Notes:
1) Accurate Assessment of Our Own Sinfulness
2) Acute Appreciation of God’s Holiness
3) Astounding Acceptance by God
